Brady Jensen, Brooke Jensen, Cody Jensen, Courtland and Jake Ohlde, Palmer. KS

North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville Kentucky is the home to the National Livestock Judging Contests for the 4-H, Junior College, Senior College Contests.  The competition is steep and as many livestock judgers pursue their goal to win a National title.
This year was the 87th Contest for the 4-H with 34 State teams participating and 141 individuals.  Kansas was represented by the River Valley District Team which consists of Brady Jensen, Brooke Jensen, and Cody Jensen all from Courtland and Jake Ohlde from Palmer.  Kansas has been represented at the National Contests since 1919 with no contests in 1942-1945 due to the war and 2009 was one of the years Kansas did not have a team to represent them due to qualifying age of the contestants.  From 1919 to 1973 the contests were held in Chicago, IL at the International Exposition and moved to Louisville in 1974.  The top three placing teams have the opportunity to Judge internationally at the Royal Highland Show in Scotland in June of 2011.  This years Team came within 4 points of winning the opportunity to travel to Scotland to judge next summer.
Kansas Teams have won the National Contest 7 times in the 87 years with the last time being in 1987
The judging contest consists of 4 classes of beef cattle, three classes of swine, three classes of sheep and one class of boar goats.  The contestants then defend their placing with oral reasons on 4 classes and questions of two classes.
Results for the National Contest where announced at the Awards Breakfast Banquet on November 17, 2010.  The Kansas Team was called upon to receive the awards for 5th
Place team in beef cattle, 9th place team in swine and 5th place  Overall Team.

Brady Jensen received the title of All American Judge, as he was named  2nd High Individual Overall.  Brady also received the awards for 2nd High individual judge in Swine, 2nd High Individual in beef cattle missing first place by one point.  Brady placed 6th High Individual in Oral reasons and 3rd overall in Performance Beef Cattle.  Brady Jensen was also introduced at the awards banquet to give the thank you to the sponsors, coaches, parents and committee members from a contestant’s point of view.   It was a successful day for the Kansas 4-H Team who represented the River Valley District with this being the only opportunity to judge at the National Contest as they can only qualify once in there 4-H career.
